SEBIN and FBI arrest Alex Saab and Raúl Gorrin

05.02.2026

Alex Saab and Raúl Gorrín were detained by a combination of SEBIN, Bolivarian Service of National Intelligence and FBI, Federal Bureau of Intelligence, suggesting closer police cooperation between allies Venezuela and United States. While a number of former Maduro regime supporters make their best efforts to discredit these news as fake, president of National Assembly Jorge Rodríguez has expressed on a video interview that he has no information on matter, suggesting that he is not capable of denying truth that is already being distributed in various languages worldwide. Reuters News Agency has been following breaking news story extensively and every hour or so they publish updates.

Capture of Alex Saab and Raul Gorrín was approved by President Delcy Rodríguez. Alex Saab was a highly corrupt official who was actually born in Baranquilla, Colombia. Still to this day, there is a debate on how he obtained Venezuelan nationality and diplomatic immunity, when he was previously arrested in Cabo Verde in 2020 during COVID epidemics. He was then transported to prison in United States. As part of Barbados agreements, former President Biden released him into Venezuela where Nicolás Maduro placed him as a minister of external commerce. A couple of weeks ago, President Delcy Rodriguez removed him from ministry and he is now arrested. While his wife yesterday was happily receiving a deportation flight coming back to homeland, which as usual arrived from Phoenix, Arizona on scheduled Eastern Airlines weekly service.

This would be a second case of contested government officials that might soon be provided to United States authorities: as Diosdado Cabello is rumored to have been fired from interior ministry. However, those news have not been made public yet. While his daughter is new minister of tourism. Camila Fabri is Alex Saab's wife and continues serving as director of Back to Homeland Mission. She actually sent letters to deposed president Nicolás Maduro through Ipostel mail services. Perhaps Camila Fabri and Daniela Cabello are a guarantee for their families: that only male corrupt individuals wanted by United States must clear accounts with justice. While their families may still enjoy some protection.

Raul Gorrín is a highly corrupt enemy of freedom of expression. He successfully purchased, through questionable methods: El Universal newspaper, Globovision television news channel and other formerly independent media. All such media are now aligned with regime. At Centro San Ignacio, a shopping complex in Chacao municipality, you may see at building top a huge Gorrín announcement: as he is known for having robbed millions of bolivars, through exchange rate differential methods applied during Chavis era. There was then a ridiculous, artificially low exchange rate to which most people did not have access. He was able to buy dollars at preferential rate. Then he could sell them at market rate through an obscene arbitrage that made him an instant billionaire.

Alex Saab and Raaúl Gorrín will be transported to United States as witnesses: for case being applied against deposed president Nicolás Maduro. It is safe to assume that these news are genuine as no disclaimer or denial has been issued after twenty-four hours. Back to Diosdado Cabello, it was absolutely interesting to see his decline in Venezuelan official media. Yesterday Wednesday was supposed to be weekly show of Diosdado Cabello, which usually provides content inadmissible for international standards, It fails to provide a courteous relationship with opposition: El Mazo Dando from Diosdado Cabelloo usually degrades opponents and incurs in hate crimes. Such television show was cancelled by Diosdado Cabello with excuse that the signal would be provided to a political party gathering in Maracay, Aragua state: on commemoration of Hugo Chavez failed coup d'état attempt in 1992 against democratic president of Acción Democrática Carlos Andrés Pérez.

Although such coup attempt failed, it was successful in advertising Hugo Chávez as a future leader. While supporters of Diosdado Cabello were chanting slogans, Venezolana de Televisión abruptly suspended transmission. Instead it proposed a President Delcy Rodríguez gathering on how to convert communist communes into productive businesses: geared for non-traditional exports. Delcy Rodríguez explained that we are no longer in resistance, which is message Diosdado Cabello usually conveyed. We have already moved into another phase of productive offense.

Productive offense sounds like a communist wording, packaged version of small private business: trying to thrive with government incentives, as is common in most civilized countries on planet Earth. Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of former President Nicolás Maduro, was actively supporting activity. It looks like Nicolás Maduro prefers system of government that Delcy Rodriguez is applying, than outdated communism from his father who is now jailed in United States. That is common for sons of revolutionaries, which would also be case of Daniella Cabello, daughter of Diosdado Cabello, who have been pampered and raised in abundance and corruption. They increasingly behave as new rich upper class, money wasting persons rather than revolutionary ancestors.

Foreign Minister of Colombia is still in United States accompanying Gustavo Petro's trip to Washington. He declared that Colombia will export electricity to Venezuela and might receive petroleum and gas imports from Venezuela as enterprises such as Pdvsa. Monómeros and Ecopetrol are set to converge operations. United States might be warming up to idea of issuing specific OFAC licenses: providing legality to Colombian Venezuelan petroleum and electrical trade allowed by current Venezuela sanctions regime. Defense minister of Colombia announced that a military attaché will be sent into Colombian embassy in Caracas so that both countries are better suited for combating narcotics and illegal armed groups on the Zulia, Táchira, Catatumbo, Norte de Santander, Arauca, Apure border.

President Gustavo Petro was able to address organization of American states in Washington DC: one day after highly successful meeting with President Donald Trump at organization of American States. Gustavo Petro explained about his proposal of making Americas great again: through various energy integration projects. But in Venezuela, we continue with imprisonment of journalists. Deutsche journalist Alvaro Alana was detained yesterday morning and released during afternoon. Also, several longtime political prisoners, dozens of them were released from various detention centers across Venezuela. It looks like President Delcy Rodríguez is exerting her best efforts to release prisoners.

Diosdado Cabello is however rumored to have been fired from interior ministry, as he has been blocking attempts to release such political prisoners, especially those who have been in military or police forces. Diosdado Cabello fears for his life: if police or military personnel who are in jail are released, they would seek revenge on Diosdado Cabello, who also has a $25 million bounty offered by United States. Meanwhile, President Delcy Rodríguez continues high level meetings with petroleum investors: such as Repsol from Spain represented by Jose Carlos de Vicente Bravo, and Luis García as well: as a highlevel meeting of Rodríguez PDVSA authorities and Maurel & Prom delegation led by Olivier Clare.

Maurel Prom is a small French petroleum company seeking extensive expansion in Venezuela. Repsol already operates significant gas development off the coast of Falcón state. Delcy Rodríguez explained that petroleum industry focus in Venezuela is three-fold: production, internal markets distribution, and finally export to the international community. Venezuela had a recent issue on refined gasoline, which was often solved by Iranian imports. However, Venezuela has become self-sufficient in gasoline more recently. Same should be expected of natural gas as Venezuela slowly starts exporting.

Slow progress is being made regarding Amnesty Law, which is exasperating Venezuelan community. Jorge Rodríguez, president of National Assembly, explained that such priority legislation is still being evaluated on its reach. An evaluation on reach of a wide raging amnesty proposal means that there are some people interested in limiting reach of what should be supposed, to be a general amnesty. It is highly suspected that Diosdado Cabello would prefer not to approve such amnesty law, as it was his wish voiced clearly many years ago. Delcy and Jorge Rodríguez are being pressured, by chief of mission of United States embassy in Caracas, that such wide ranging amnesty should occur very soon. They should avoid second wave of military attacks of United States Delta forces into Venezuela.

Recently described shift on Venezuelan television programming: from political resistance propaganda led by Diosdado Cabello into communal economic development for small business exports promoted by Delcy Rodríguez means a transition from communism to capitalism, a transition from darkness into light, a transition from hatred into hope of economic development. As Diosdado Cabello's power wanes and Delcy Rodríguez power rises, it should be expected that eventually Delcy Rodríguez vision might prevail. It will be finally possible to propose a suitable amnesty law to the National Assembly: as far reaching as possible. We have not got to that moment yet.

There is hurry and extreme pressure, exerted by both United States and Venezuelan civil society, to expedite amnesty law process. Meanwhile, National Assembly will address other issues later today when they meet. Dialogues of peace and democratic conviviality have been promoted by president of national assembly Jorge Rodríguez: with assistance of Ernesto Villegas, minister of culture. Several opposition figures represented at Venezuelan National Assembly were present. They conducted two exploratory meetings and Venezuelan population has yet to see if any progress has been made.

Dialogues in past have been a waste of time: as government has been successful in imposing its line. Nowadays, extreme military pressure from United States, which continues deploying navy in Caribbean might force a more inclusive dialogue. Main topic however remains insistence of Venezuelan government: of hiding or delaying imminent and unavoidable actions, such as extradition of Raúl Gorrín and extradition into United States. Delaying release of political prisoners, or denying information to public of events that are not favorable for ruling party have remained constant. At end of 2012 and beginning of 2013, there was high secrecy on declining stage of illness of former President Hugo Chávez. His death was announced on March 5th, 2013, while he had actually died in 2012 on December 30th. Chávez death was announced 9 weeks after having occurred.

International pressure for stabilization and recovery of Venezuela's economy and politics is unprecedented. It is expected that in next few hours or days, public opinion will finally receive official confirmation that indeed Alex Saab and Raúl Gorrín will be sent to United States. Hardliners are armed. They might cause trouble and threats to civilian society who just want to pacify country. They are not willing to have any United States presence in Venezuela. However, that United States presence is necessary for development of oil industry along with Western European countries such as Spain, Italy or France whose companies are also investing in Venezuela.

Diosdado Cabello issued a fearful message of requesting ruling party unity: because if they are divided they will all be killed. Perhaps he is extrapolating his own fears as most Venezuelans feel safe and hopeful of changes that are occurring, while Cabello is unwilling to follow orders from Delcy Rodríguez and therefore could be subject to a specific United States extraction: so that he accompanies Nicolás Maduro in New York jail.
